מדם הפר

גָּרַעI (b. h.; v. גרר) to scrape off, to diminish, deduct. Snh.29a כל המוסיף גּוֹרֵעַ he who adds (to the truth) diminishes (whoever does too much does too little). R. Hash. 28b, a. fr. עובר על בל תִּגְרַע transgresses the law which prohibits diminishing from what the law prescribes (Deut. 13:1, v. בַּל). Yoma 48a גּוֹרְעִין ומוסיפין ודורשין we may take away (one servile letter from one word of the text) and add it to another and thus interpret the law (e. g. מדם הפר explained as: דם מהפר); B.
